LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s track and field team moved up 17 spots to No. 24 in this week’s national rankings, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Tuesday.
Kentucky returns to the outdoor top-25 for the first time since checking in at No. 21 in the 2010 preseason poll.
“The ranking is a great honor and reward for our team,” head coach Edrick Floreal said. “I’m very proud of our team and thankful that my peers recognize our student-athletes’ hard work.”
The Wildcats concluded the 2013 indoor season ranked No. 20, which marked their first time ranked inside the indoor top-25 since earning the No. 25 rating in the final 2010 regular season poll.
The Wildcats moved up 17 spots from last week’s rankings, which was the largest jump among teams in the top 25.
The UK men’s team checked in at No. 43 in the most recent rankings.
The USTFCCCA National Team Rankings are a projection of how teams could fare at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Tuesday’s poll marked the first set of rankings this season that did not feature marks from 2012, except for combined events.
Rebecca Famurewa leads the Wildcats in the individual rankings as her top discus throw of 187′ 4″/57.09M is third farthest in America this season.
Morganne Phillips owns the nation’s 11th fastest 400 meters time of 52.66.
Cally Macumber and Chelsea Oswald rank inside the national top-25 in multiple events.
Oswald’s 5,000 meter time of 15:49.57 posted last month at the Stanford Invitational ranks 11th nationally and she also owns the 25th-fastest time in the nation at 1,500 meters.
Macumber ranks 11th at 1,500 meters (converted to 4:17.18 from her school-record mile time of 4:37.75).
Kayla Parker’s top 100-meter hurdles performance of 13.20 is the 11th best in the nation this season.
Keith Hayes owns the nation’s 10th fastest 110-meter hurdles time (13.66).
Andrew Evans’ top discus throw of 196′ 9”/59.96M is fifth-best in America this season.
Raymond Dykstra’s javelin throw of 235′ 2″/71.68M recorded at the Texas Relays ranks No. 11 in the nation.
