LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team will cap off regular season play at home this weekend, hosting No. 2 Florida on Friday at 4 p.m. and No. 27 South Carolina on Sunday at noon.
Kentucky is 12-10 entering the final weekend of competition, 3-8 in Southeastern Conference contests. The Wildcats faced Vanderbilt last weekend, dropping the match 5-1. Freshman Nadia Ravita recorded Kentucky’s lone win of the match, defeating No. 61 Lauren Mira in straight sets. Ravita moved up to 22nd in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s latest rankings, the highest singles ranking for a UK player since 2006.
Ranked No. 2 in the country, Florida is 17-2 (10-1 SEC) heading into Friday’s match. The Gators are riding a 10-match win streak and have failed to surrender a point in the previous five matches. Their lone loss in SEC action came against then sixth-ranked Texas A&M, a team that defeated Kentucky 5-2 earlier in the year.
Florida’s Lauren Embree is currently ranked No. 1 in the national singles rankings.
South Carolina is 13-8 entering the weekend, including 6-5 in SEC action. The Gamecocks will face Vanderbilt on Friday before traveling to Lexington for Sunday’s match. South Carolina has won four consecutive matches, sweeping Ole Miss 4-0 in its most recent match.
Preluding Sunday’s match Kentucky will host senior day activities to honor senior Jessica Stiles and junior Khristina Blajkevitch, who will be graduating early and forgoing her final year of eligibility.
