OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team opened up the M&F Bank Rebel Intercollegiate with a solid round of 3-over-par, 291 and are tied for fifth in the 18-team field. The Wildcats are just two shots off from second place and seven strokes off Coastal Carolina, who leads the tournament at 4-under-par.
Seniors Ashleigh Albrecht and Heather Lott paced the way for the Wildcats with each shooting even par on the afternoon. The two are tied for 11th overall on the leaderboard and five shots off first place.
Albrecht, who began her round on hole No. 10, tallied just one birdie on the back nine before rallying off four birdies on the front nine to record a team-high five on the day. The Murietta, Calif., native was 3-over on Friday before sinking birdies on three of her last five holes to get back to even.
Lott came out on fire on Friday, charting three birdies in her first 10 holes to get to 3-under. The Baton Rouge, La., native recorded her second-lowest round of the year, posting 12 pars on the day.
Fellow senior Betsie Johnson was also impressive in her opening round, shooting a 1-over-par, 73. Johnson tallied four birdies on the afternoon, including her final two holes and is tied for 17th.
Freshman Sarah Harris was the most consistent player for the Wildcats on the day charting a team-high 16 pars on Friday. Harris posted just two bogeys on the afternoon, shooting a 2-over-par, 74 and is tied for 26th.
Senior Megan Moir is tied for 73rd after firing a 6-over-par, 79, while junior Liz Breed, who is competing as an individual, was 1-over on the day and is tied for 17th.
Round two of the tournament will resume on Saturday beginning at 10:51 a.m. ET. Moir will tee off first for the Cats at 11:45 off of hole No. 7 with Harris (hole No. 8), Johnson (No. 9), Lott (No. 10) and Albrecht (No. 11) to follow in nine minute intervals.
