LEXINGTON, Ky. – Chelsea Oswald continues to rake in prestigious honors both academically and athletically, as she was recently awarded the prestigious NCAA Fall Postgraduate Scholarship.

The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically, and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. Oswald finished her senior cross country season as a 2012 All-American.

She is the first Wildcat to garner the award since rifle team member Andrew Roland in 2008-09.

Oswald has been named to the athletic director’s honor roll, awarded to the Wildcat with the highest semester GPA on his/her team, six times (Fall 2009, Spring 2010, Fall 2010, Spring 2011, Fall 2011 and Spring 2012).

She was named to the SEC Freshman honor roll, and the SEC honor roll for the 2010-11, and 2011-12 seasons. Oswald has also been on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee since 2010, serving as historian since 2011.

Oswald finished third at both the SEC Cross Country Championships and NCAA Southeast Regional earning All-SEC and All-Region honors in the process.

Oswald won the NCAA Elite 89 award earlier this month for indoor track and field. The honor is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s championships.

Oswald also racked up athletic awards during the recently-completed indoor track and field season claiming All-America honors in two events, first-team in the distance medley relay, and second-team at 3,000 meters.

The NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

The one-time grants of $7,500 each are awarded for fall sports, winter sports and spring sports.

Each sports season (fall, winter and spring), there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 scholarships available for women. The scholarships are one-time, nonrenewable grants.
