Rio Grande, Puerto Rico – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team concluded their first round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday, carding a 13-over-par, 301. The Wildcats are currently in seventh place and 10 strokes off the leader Arkansas.
“Overall we are pleased with today’s round,” head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “We did struggle a bit throughout the day, but we are really proud that everyone managed to finish their rounds strong. The girls are excited to build upon their successes of today going forward.”
Senior Ashleigh Albrecht fired the lowest score of the afternoon for the Cats with a 2-over-par, 74. She is tied for 16th overall after recording a nearly clean scorecard of 16 pars and just two bogeys on holes No. 6 and 18.
Freshmen Cylia Damerau and Sarah Harris had a solid day for the Wildcats posting scores of 3-over-par, 74 and are tied for 22nd individually. Damerau tallied three birdies on the day with two coming on the front nine and one on the back. Harris recorded two birdies on the afternoon with them coming on holes 11 and 15.
Junior Liz Breed and senior Megan Moir are tied for 47th overall after carding a 5-over-par, 77. Breed sank two birdies on Sunday, while Moir had added one on hole No. 15. Senior Betsie Johnson, who is playing as an individual, is also tied for 47th with a first round score of 5-over.
Round two of the tournament will resume on Monday with a shotgun start beginning at 7 a.m. ET. Albrecht and Damerau will tee off on hole five, while Harris will start on six, Breed on seven and Moir on eight. Johnson will begin her round on the back nine on hole 16.
