SEA ISLAND, Ga. – University of Kentucky men’s golfer Ben Stow finished tied for ninth in the Jones Cup Invitational with a 54-hole final score of 5-over-par 221. The junior transfer was tied for second and just three strokes off the lead entering today’s final round and played well enough over the three day tournament to earn himself a top-10 finish.

The tournament was played at the Ocean forest Golf Club located in Sea Island, Ga. Stow shot a 1-over-par 73 in the opening round on Friday before firing a Saturday low round of 2-under-par 70 and was tied for second place at 1-under. He concluded the invitational with a 6-over-par 78 on Sunday, finishing eight strokes off the lead.

Stow, who is a native of Salisbury, England and transferred to Kentucky this fall, will be eligible to participate for UK’s golf team this spring. Stow was rated as high as No. 2 among European players last summer and should provide the Wildcats with a major boost to their lineup.

“Ben is a special talent and he proved it this week at the Jones Cup,” head coach Brian Craig said. “A top-10 finish in one of the most competitive amateur events in the world is a great return to tournament golf after a five month break. I look forward to the spring season getting underway and watching Ben play a major role in our team’s success.”

The Wildcats are slated to tee off their spring season at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate on Feb. 18-19, in Mobile, Ala.
