LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky track and field teams will hit the road for the first time in 2013 this weekend.
A group of 29 athletes composed predominantly of sprinters, hurdlers, middle distance runners and field athletes will head to Lincoln, Neb., for the Husker Invitational. A squad of men’s distance runners will compete at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
The lion’s share of Friday’s action is scheduled to take place in Nebraska. The Friday track events at the Husker Invitational will be preliminary heats.
Kayla Parker will compete in the women’s 60-meter hurdles just six days after she took third and was the second-highest collegiate finisher at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet in Lexington. Parker set a new personal record 8.38 in the prelims, which ranks as the No. 5 time in the Southeastern Conference this year.
Keith Hayes headlines the Wildcat men competing in the 60H. The senior’s time of 7.82 at the Hoosier Open last December is third-best in the SEC, and 12th-fastest in the nation this season. Brandon Bagley, Darryl Bradshaw and Daniel Buckles are all slated to participate in that event as well.
Keilah Tyson will look to improve on her 60-meter time as she currently holds the No. 5 performance in the SEC at that distance.
Kadeem Kushimo will compete in the men’s 60 meters as he is also coming off a PR performance from a week ago.
The Kentucky throwers have been among the Wildcats’ brightest performers this season, and a number of them are scheduled to take part in the weight throw Friday.
Rebecca Famurewa’s throw of 17.93m/58’10” at the Kentucky Invitational is the No. 8 SEC weight throw of the season.
Andrew Evans owns the top mark for UK as his throw of 18.03m/59’2″ at the Hoosier Open ranks No. 12 in the conference. Conner Neu and Bradley Szypka will also take part in the weight throw.
Walter Luttrell and Mackay Wilson will compete in the 5,000 meters on Friday at Notre Dame with the gun set to fire at approximately 7:15 p.m. ET.
Live results will be available for both meets and live video of the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational will be provided via FloTrack.
