KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky diving team wrapped up the Tennessee Diving Invitational on Saturday with both the men and women competing on the platform. Junior Greg Ferrucci and sophomore Christa Cabot each placed in the top five. The NCAA style meet gave UK a rare opportunity to compete in that type of atmosphere before the postseason.
“It was a good chance to compete platform before the SEC Championship,” said head coach Ted Hautau. “We don’t get the opportunity in dual meets to contest and simulate the NCAA qualify meet we will compete at in March.”
The three day event concluded Saturday as the women took to the platform first. Cabot placed fourth with a final score of 242.80. Fellow sophomore Sarah Chewning placed 12th on the day with a 214.35.
“Christ Cabot has been working on upgrading her list of dives and she showed some real promise,” said Hautau. “The meet as a whole was a good chance to dive against a big feild of divers.”
After the women, the men took to the platform for their event. Ferrucci also placed fourth after picking up a win on the 3-meter board on Friday. He scored a 326.85 in the event. Junior Zachary Peterson finished 11th with a 290.40.
The Kentucky diving team will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 12:30 p.m. ET on Senior Day when the Wildcats host the University of Louisville.
