Kirby, a high school teammate of current Wildcat Connor Davis at Shelby County High School, brings record-breaking performances with her to the Kentucky program. Kirby set two national precision air rifle records en route to winning the 2012 National JROTC Precision Air Rifle Championship. The 699 qualification-plus-final score topped the previous record of 697.5 set by Davis in 2011. She also set the national record for final score with a 105.

“Heather brings a good understanding of the team dynamic having competed in high school for the last four years and Sonya has team experience from her time with Taunton Marksmanship Unit,” Mullins said. “Having experience in a team situation is a plus coming into college where you compete as a team.”

Sonya May

May, a senior at Rockland High School, signs with the Wildcats ranked in the top-20 nationally in air rifle. She finished third at the National Air Rifle Championships held at Camp Perry, Ohio. A member of the Taunton Marksmanship Unit, May was the women’s Massachusetts smallbore champion at the Junior Olympic Qualifier. Competing at the 2012 Winter Airgun Championships, May shot a personal best 392 out of 400.

“Heather and Sonya’s backgrounds are very solid,” Mullins said. “The two of them have tremendous knowledge of the game which will be a strength in the long run towards them achieving great performances in college.
