LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s basketball junior center DeNesha Stallworth was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, the league office in Birmingham, Ala., announced Monday.

Stallworth, a 6-foot-3 junior transfer from Cal, earned Kentucky’s first weekly honor of the 2012-13 season after averaging team highs of 16.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, while shooting .519 from the field (14-of-27) and .800 from the charity stripe (4-of-5) on the week. She helped lead the Cats (8-1) to victories over DePaul (96-64) and Middle Tennessee (68-46), extending UK’s winning streak to a season-high seven games.

The Richmond, Calif., eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career early in the first half against DePaul, earning the milestone in just 79 games, and currently has totaled 1,030 career points. Stallworth finished the game with her second double-double of the season and 14th of her career with UK career highs of 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Following her career night vs. DePaul, Stallworth reached double figures for the sixth straight game with 16 points, a career-best five assists, two blocks and a steal against Middle Tennessee.

On the season, Stallworth is tied for the team lead in blocks (1.7 bpg), and ranks second in scoring (11.3 ppg), rebounds (5.4), assists (1.9 apg) and field goal percentage (.511).

The Wildcats (8-1) will take a week off for final exams before heading out west for a two-game road swing against Pepperdine on Dec. 18 in Malibu, Calif. at 10 p.m. ET and UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 21 in Santa Barbara, Calif. at 6 p.m. ET.
