BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Alexandra Morgan has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Morgan was simply a game-changer in helping lead UK to a four-set victory over Georgia on Senior Day. Morgan posted a career-high 10 blocks which easily is also the highest mark of the season for any Wildcat.
She is the first UK player to tally 10 or more rejections in a match since 2010 when Lauren Rapp had 10 blocks in the second-round of the NCAA Tournament. With the 10 blocks she now pushes her season average to above one with 1.02 blocks per frame.
In addition to the 10 rejections she also had a team-high three aces and contributed four digs which is the second-highest total for the junior this season behind her career-high of five. She was one kill off a double-double effort with nine hammers on a blazing .400 hitting percentage.
This is the second honor of the season for the junior from Birmingham, Ala. She began the season as the league’s top defensive performer following the opening weekend of the season. UK has garnered a total of six honors this season.
UK will return to the hardwood on Wed., Nov. 21 at Missouri in the teams’ only meeting of the season. The match is slated for an 8 p.m. ET start. Kentucky will then conclude its regular season schedule on Fri., Nov. 23 at Auburn for a 4 p.m. ET first serve.
