LEXINGTON, Ky. – Cally Macumber and Chelsea Oswald were named All-Americans in cross country on Monday, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The top 40 finishers at the Division I NCAA Championships were selected as All-Americans.
Macumber finished sixth at Nationals with a season-best time of 19:42.20, fewer than 15 seconds behind the race winner. Oswald placed 37th with a time of 20:13.00.
They are just the ninth and tenth women to be named All-Americans in program history. Multiple UK women had not garnered All-America recognition in the same year since 1989, the last time any UK woman runner was selected as an All-American.
Macumber became the first woman in UK history to record a sub-20 minute 6K with her performance at Nationals.
The junior, Rochester Hills, Mich., native, is the highest NCAA finisher for the Wildcat women since Valerie McGovern was the national runner-up in 1989.
Macumber placed inside the top-10 at every 2012 race she entered, highlighted by three individual victories.
Oswald, a senior from Medina, Ohio, finished in the top 25 at six-of-seven meets in 2012, and was in the top 50 at every competition this season.
