LEXINGTON, Ky. — After helping lead Kentucky to a shutout at No. 23 Tulsa – the No. 2 team in the NCAA in goals scored – on Saturday night, junior defender Steven Perinovic has been named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, it was announced on Monday morning.
A native of Delafield, Wis., Perinovic starred in Kentucky’s third road top-25 win of the year on Saturday at Tulsa. The redshirt junior anchored the UK defensive unit from his center back position, helping the Wildcats blank the NCAA’s second-best offense. He was a force in the air during the game, consistently winning contested headers and performing well against the TU attacking players, including leading scorer Cristian Mata.
On the year, Perinovic has started all 16 games at center back, helping lead the Wildcats to a 1.29 goals-against average. He got his first career goal in 2012 as the game-winning tally vs. East Tennessee State.
Kentucky (9-6-1, 4-1-1 Conference USA) has won four consecutive games and boasts an 8-2-1 record over its last 11 games. UK entered the win at Tulsa tied for the second-most wins on the road in the NCAA and sported the No. 13 strength of schedule and the No. 18 NCAA RPI in the nation.
UK returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Central Florida at 7 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex.
