LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky rifle team took down No. 15 Tennessee-Martin Sunday, shooting a 4656 to UT-Martin’s 4577. Freshman Connor Davis led the Wildcats with an aggregate score of 1170.

“I’m real proud of how the team held up today,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “We could have picked up a few more in smallbore and at the end of air rifle but overall it was a good performance day.”

Junior Aaron Holsopple led the Wildcats in smallbore, shooting a 582, while Davis led the team in air rifle with a 592. Senior Ed Ryznar and sophomore Cody Manning delivered solid performances in air rifle, both shooting a 589.

“It is nice to see some of the work that the team has been putting in pay off,” Mullins said. “People stepped up and performed in a pressure situation and I was real proud of them for that. The team earned some valuable experience today. Overall, I was really proud of the folks that were on the blue team today. They held together and never gave in.”

Sophomore Elijah Ellis contributed to the team’s aggregate score with a 573 in smallbore and 581 in air rifle. Sophomore Jonathan Pinkel delivered a 587 in air rifle. Senior Katie Fretts contributed a 583 in air rifle to the team’s aggregate score.

“I think that once we get over closing out some good strings we will see our numbers start to climb in the range that we would like for them to be,” Mullins said.

The Wildcats (4-0) will travel to Charleston, S.C., this weekend to face North Carolina State at the Citadel.

“The hard work that the team has been putting in is starting to pay off,” Mullins said. “I feel that if we keep working hard, more good numbers will come our way. We will train hard this week and get ready to go to the Citadel next weekend.”
