DUBLIN, Ohio – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team wrapped up their final round of the Jack Nicklaus Invitational on Tuesday, finishing in fourth place in a competitive 11 team field. The Wildcats posted a combined score of 33-over-par at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.
Kent State claimed the title of the event with a score of 29-over-par, four strokes ahead of the Cats.
“We had a chance to win today with a few holes to play,” head coach Brian Craig said. “We did not quite get it done but this team is getting better, a lot better. The Muirfield Village experience will help us to be better prepared the next time we play championship golf. The greens were rolling 13.5 on the stimpmeter and we had the Sunday hole locations that the PGA Tour uses here. It was an extraordinary test of golf and we handled it admirably.”
Senior Chase Parker had a strong round for UK, carding a 2-over-par, 74. The Augusta, Ga., native recorded two birdies on the afternoon and concluded the invitational tied for sixth at 5-over-par, marking the first top-10 finish of the year for Parker.
Will Bishop and Cody Martin both completed the event in a tie for 14th individually with scores of 8-over-par. Bishop turned in a round of 5-over, while Martin was 6-over on the day.
Sophomore David Snyder and junior Stephen Powers both finished tied for 28th at 13-over-par.
UK featured a split squad this week as coach Craig sent four individuals to the Bearcat Invitational in Hebron, Ky., at the Traditions Golf Club. The tournament picked up where it left off in the second round and played the final round of 18 on Tuesday.
After firing a 2-over-par round one, freshman Harrison Greenberry posted scores of even par and 1-under in the final two rounds. Greenberry concluded the Bearcat Invitational with the lowest score among Wildcats at 1-over-par, tying for ninth place overall.
Joseph Barr and Seth Blann each recorded scores of 14-over for the tournament, finishing tied for 41st. Matthew Anderson was tied for 64th at 23-over-par.
The Wildcats have a quick turnaround as they travel to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico to compete in the Querencia Cabo Collegiate, Oct. 14-16. For more information on the University of Kentucky men’s golf team please visit UKathletics.com and follow on twitter @UKMensGolf.
