DUBLIN, Ohio – A strong finish down the stretch has helped the University of Kentucky men’s golf team remain in the hunt, as they currently sit tied for second after one round of the Jack Nicklaus Invitational in Dublin, Ohio. The Wildcats shot 14-over-par as a team and are just seven shots off the leader Oklahoma State.

The invitational, which is being played at the Muirfield Village Golf Club, was delayed roughly two and a half hours due to frost on the course. The originally scheduled 54-hole tournament has been cut down to 36 holes as a result. The final round will begin on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Each participant for UK began on the back nine with hole No. 10. The Cats got off to a slow start but responded on the front nine to remain in contention for the final round on Tuesday.

“We started very poorly today and dug ourselves into a big hole from the start,” head coach Brian Craig said. “However, this team has character. We battled back to have a chance tomorrow. We will need a good round but definitely have a chance on a challenging Muirfield Village course.”

Cody Martin recorded the lowest score on the afternoon for the Wildcats with a 2-over-par 74 and is tied for seventh overall in the event. The junior was 2-over after the opening nine holes before carding an even par front nine that included two birdies.

Chase Parker and Will Bishop are tied for 13th after each firing a round of 3-over-par 75. Parker recorded a team-high 13 pars on the day, while Bishop recorded a sizzling 2-under score on the final nine holes.

Sophomore David Snyder was 6-over and junior Stephen Powers shot 7-over and are tied for 28th and 31st, respectively.

Powers is set to tee of first for the Cats on Tuesday at 9:20 a.m. ET with Snyder, Bishop, Parker and Martin to follow in 10 minute intervals.

UK is featuring a split squad this week as coach Craig sent four individuals to the Bearcat Invitational in Hebron, Ky., at the Traditions Golf Club. The tournament was also delayed due to frost and will pick up where it left off in the second round on Tuesday.

Freshman Harrison Greenberry posted the lowest score of round one for the Cats with a 2-over-par 74 and is tied for 28th. Seth Blann is tied for 33rd at 3-over, while Joseph Barr is tied for 39th at 4-over and Matthew Anderson is tied for 48th at 5-over.
