LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky football head coach Joker Phillips has announced that sophomore quarterback Maxwell Smith and sophomore wide receiver Demarco Robinson have been named game captains for Kentucky’s home opener Saturday against Kent State at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Game captains are usually chosen on the basis of performance in the previous game. Smith had a solid first game for Kentucky, completing a career-high 35 completions to 11 different receivers for 280 yards and two touchdowns. The 35 completions against Louisville was only one off Tim Couch’s Governor Cup record.
One of the 11 receivers that caught a pass from Smith was Robinson, who had three receptions for 16 yards. The three receptions in a game was a career-high-tying effort for Robinson, who also returned three punts for 22 yards, including a 13-yard return.
Max Smith and Robinson will join permanent game captains Matt Smith and Collins Ukwu at the pregame coin toss.
