Aug. 14, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Highlighted by an international trip to Mexico, the Kentucky men’s golf team has released its 2012-13 schedule, it was announced Tuesday by head coach Brian Craig.

“We have decided to totally change up our fall schedule this year and have some extraordinary trips planned,” said Craig.  “It will be a fantastic experience for this team to get to play on the west coast a couple times as well as the Wolf Run and Jack Nicklaus events this semester.”

The fall campaign will begin Sept. 15-16 at the Wolf Run Invitational in Zionsville, Ind. before heading across the country to the Saint Mary’s College Invitational in Monterey, Cal. on Sept. 24-25. After a couple weeks off, Kentucky will head to Dublin, Ohio, for the Jack Nicklaus Invitational.

To finish the fall season, Kentucky will travel to San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico for the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on Oct. 14-16.

“Our spring schedule has stayed pretty much intact and is just a superb schedule against the top competition in the SEC and in all of Division I golf,” noted coach Craig.

The Wildcats spring begins Jan 12-14 in Palm Beach, Fla., for the Alumni Match. Kentucky will be paired with alumni from the program over the span of the four day event at Old Palm Golf Club and The Dye Preserve Golf Club.

Following the Alumni Match, Kentucky heads to Mobile, Ala. for the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate Feb. 18-19, an event the Wildcats finished in a tie for ninth in 2012.

After a third place finish in 2012, the Wildcats head back to Tampa, Fla. for the USF Invitational March 3-5. Senior Chase Parker led the squad with fourth-place finish, shooting a 3-under-par 213.

The Wildcats will travel to Auburn, Ala., March 11-12 for the Tiger Invitational at Grand National, a Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed course.

From Auburn, Kentucky will travel to Statesboro, Ga., for an eighth consecutive year, competing in the Schenkel Invitational on March 15-17. The Wildcats head to Awendaw, S.C., March 24-26 for the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.

Kentucky will return to Tampa to wrap up the spring season at the Gary Koch Invitational, April 8-9.

Postseason play begins April 19th as the SEC Championship returns to St. Simons Island, Ga. The Wildcats will look to make their way back to the NCAA Tournament with an NCAA Regional berth on May 16-18. The NCAA Championship will be held at Atlanta’s Capital City Club May 28-June 2.

“We are ready to get this season underway and see what this team is capable of,” said Craig. “The future is bright for this young group of guys and this schedule will definitely help prepare us for the postseason championships.”

The Wildcats are looking to improve on a 2011-12 campaign that resulted in five top-five finishes, including a first-place finish at the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational. Cody Martin led Kentucky, competing in all 12 events while posting a 73.18 scoring average.
