LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky diving team had an extremely impressive showing at qualifications for the 2012 AT&T National Diving Championships this weekend, as the Wildcats qualified all nine entries for the 2012 championships in Greensboro, N.C.
“I am very pleased with our divers performances this weekend,” UK head diving coach Ted Hautau said. “We will have good representation at the National Diving Championships.”
The UK divers competed this past weekend in Moultrie, Ga., which was the host site for the Zone B qualifications. There were four zones spread out across the country and the top five finishers in each individual event qualified. In addition, the top three teams in each zone qualified for the championships to be held in mid August.
UK’s Greg Ferrucci was prequalified for the championships via his performances in last year’s event. The junior from the ‘Tar Heel’ state placed third in the one-meter, and seventh in the three-meter a year ago.
John Fox led a group of three divers who qualified for the one-meter championship, joining Corey Cowger and Christa Cabot for the Wildcats.
Fox also qualified on the platform, joining Lindsey Keahey who will compete in North Carolina in the summer. Keahey, in addition to platform, will compete in the synchronized platform as well.
Cowger, Cabot, Zack Peterson, Sarah Chewning and Rebecca Hamperian all qualified on the three-meter synchronized springboard. In addition, Chewning will compete in the championships on the one-meter springboard and three-meter springboard as an individual.
“The divers have trained well this summer as a team and everyone who competed in this meet qualified in some event. We are moving in the right direction.” Hautau said.
The AT&T National Championships will run from August 14-19 in Greensboro, N.C.
