LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky sophomore golfer Will Bishop fired a final-round 67 Sunday to claim his second Lexington Men’s City Championship of his career.

The Lexington, Ky., native won the 2012 championship by two strokes. It is Bishop’s second city title in four years. He also won the city title in 2009 as a 16-year-old.

“I think this will help going into the season, mostly with confidence,” Bishop said. “It was an up and down freshman year and I think this gets me back in the right direction. It helps with confidence if nothing else and I think it will help in the fall for sure.”

Bishop opened the tournament with a 4-under-par 68 at Tates Creek. After a 2-over-par 74 in the second round, Bishop rebounded with a 6-under-par 66 at the Gary Brewer Jr. Course at Picadome, and carded a 5-under-par 67 at Kearney Hill Golf Links.

The tournament, held from July 12-15, was played on four courses around the Lexington area, including Tates Creek, Lakeside, Gary Brewer Jr. Course at Picadome and Kearney Hill Golf Links. The 72-hole tournament is for men who reside in Fayette County or hold a membership at a Fayette County golf club.

Bishop played in six tournaments during the 2011-12 season as a true freshman, holding a stroke average of 75.29. Bishop’s lowest 54-hole total came at the Marshall Invitational when he shot a 5-over-par, 218. The best round of his season came in the final round of the Schenkel Invitational, where he carded a 2-under-par 70.
