LEXINGTON, Ky. – Led by Senior Ashlee Rose, the University of Kentucky women’s golf team improved by ten strokes on day two of the 2012 SEC Championship, finishing the day at 19-over-par 307. The Wildcats moved up two spots into a tie for eighth, currently at 48-over-par 624 entering the final round of competition at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.  

Auburn jumped Alabama in the second round to take control of the top of the team leaderboard. The Tigers shot a 9-over-par 297 in the second round, entering the final round at 27-over-par 603. Arkansas shot a second-round best, 7-over-par 295 to jump three spots into second at 28-over-par 604. Alabama fell to third after shooting a 24-over-par 312 in the second round, entering the final round at 33-over-par 609. Florida shot a 17-over-par 305 on Saturday, sitting in fourth at 39-over-par 612. Georgia rounds out the top five at 38-over-par 614 after shooting an 18-over-par 306 in the second round.

Rose picked up right where she left off, shooting a 3-over-par 75 for the second consecutive day. Rose’s consistent play leaves her in a tie for sixth overall. With 13 pars in the second round, Rose now has 25 pars on the weekend, a tie for the most by an individual through the first two rounds.

Patricia Sanz of Georgia took sole possession of first after shooting a 1-over-par 73 in the second round. Sanz now sits at 2-under-par 142 entering the final round, one stroke ahead of second-place Marina Alex of Vanderbilt. Alex leads the field with 10 birdies on the weekend while Sanz has sunk eight to go along with 23 pars.

Junior Betsie Johnson showed improvement for the Wildcats, shooting a team-best 2-over-par 74 in the second round, a seven stroke improvement from Friday. Johnson stayed consistent, sinking two birdies to go along with 12 pars, increasing her weekend total to 20. The drastic improvement by Johnson jumped her 19 spots in the standing, entering the final round in a tie for 22nd at 11-over-par 155. Sophomore Liz Breed also showed improvement, shooting a 6-over-par 78 on Saturday. Breed sunk a team-high three birdies to leave her in a tie for 31st at 14-over-par 158 through two rounds.

Junior Ashleigh Albrecht sunk one birdie on the day to finish the second round at 10-over-par 82. Albrecht currently sits in a tie for 45th at 19-over-par 163. Continuing with the theme of second-round improvement, junior Heather Lott improved by four strokes, shooting an 8-over-par 80. Lott is now in a tie for 49th at 22-over-par 164.

Kentucky will begin the final round of the 2012 SEC Championship Sunday morning from the 12th tee box. The Wildcats will tee off in 10-minute intervals with Lott leading off at 9:50 a.m. Lott will be followed by Albrecht, Breed, Johnson and finally Rose at 10:30 a.m. All times are Eastern.
