LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the second consecutive round, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team carded a 2-under-par 286 at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. Played at the Forest Heights Country Club (par 72, 6,962 yards), the Wildcats sit in ninth on the team leaderboard through two rounds of play.

Led again by sophomore Cody Martin, the Wildcats had four golfers record even or under-par rounds for the second straight day. Kentucky has shot four straight rounds of 289 or better, going back to the second round of the USF Invitational. It is the best stretch of scores for the Cats since March 28-April 11, 2010, when the Cats recorded five-straight such rounds.

“We got off to a fast start today and were standing on the ninth tee at 9-under-par as a team,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “Unfortunately, we did not finish off as we had hoped. We are knocking on the door and it will open soon if we can stay patient.”

Martin sits in a tie for 12th after shooting his second consecutive round of 2-under-par (70) at the Forest Heights Country Club (par 72, 6,962 yards) in Statesboro, Ga. Martin got off to a blazing hot start with five birdies in the opening seven holes of his round. Martin made the turn at 4-under par and came in with a 2-over-par 38 to finish at 2-under-par for the round. Martin has shot even or under par in each of his last four rounds going back to the second round of the USF Invitational.

Junior Joseph Barr and freshman David Snyder each are tied for 31st after shooting their second consecutive rounds of even-par 72.

Barr birdied Nos. 6 and 7 on his opening nine, and went out with a 1-under-par 35. The Versailles, Ky., native bogeyed No. 10 and parred each of the final eight holes to finish at even par.

Snyder birdied the opening par-4 first hole, but a bogey on No. 2 moved him back to even. Snyder would card one more birdie and bogey on his front nine and went out at even par. The back nine was similar for the Somerset, Ky., native, as he had one birdie, one bogey and seven pars to finish at even par.

Junior Chase Parker battled well in his round Friday. After recording a bogey on his second hole of the morning, Parker got back to even-par with a birdie on No. 6. Parker fell to 2-over par with back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 11 and 12, but responded with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 to finish with his even-par 72. Parker is tied for 37th.

Sophomore Stephen Powers opened his round with birdies on Nos. 6 and 8, but finished his round at 3-over par and sits in a tie for 51st after an opening round of even-par on Friday.

Freshman Will Bishop, who is playing this week as an individual, shot a 1-over-par 73 and sits in a tie for 69th. Bishop, who teed off from the 10th, made the turn at 1-under-par, but came in with a 2-over-par 38 to finish at 1-over.

Kentucky is joined in the 14-team Schenkel Invitational field by host-school Georgia Southern, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Minnesota, Ole Miss, N.C. State, North Florida, Notre Dame, South Carolina, UAB, Vanderbilt and Virginia.

Alabama leads the field heading into Sunday’s final round. The Crimson Tide carded a tournament-record round of 20-under-par (268) on Friday, and followed it up with a 19-under-par 269 Saturday. Alabama’s first two rounds have been the two lowest team rounds in the tournament’s 33-year history.

The tournament will conclude Sunday with the third round beginning at 8:00 a.m. ET. Powers will begin Kentucky’s round off the first tee at 8:00 a.m. Parker, Snyder, Barr and Martin will then follow in nine-minute intervals. Bishop will tee off from No. 10 at 8:09 a.m.
