LEXINGTON, Ky. – Coming off a third-place finish at the USF Invitational, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team now heads to Statesboro, Ga., for the Schenkel Invitational on March 16-18. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at Forest Heights Country Club (par 72, 6,962 yards).
Kentucky is joined in the 14-team Schenkel Invitational field by host-school Georgia Southern, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Minnesota, Ole Miss, N.C. State, North Florida, Notre Dame, South Carolina, UAB, Vanderbilt and Virginia.
“The Schenkel Invitational is one of the premier events in college golf, and we are ready to see how we stack up in such a talented field,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “I can sense that the guys are close to playing like we are capable. We just need to keep focusing on the things we can control and stay patient as we head into the middle of our spring season.”
Playing for the Wildcats this weekend is sophomore Cody Martin, junior Chase Parker, freshman David Snyder, sophomore Stephen Powers and junior Joseph Barr. Freshman Will Bishop will compete for Kentucky as an individual.
The tournament will begin with 18 holes Friday at 9:00 a.m. ET. Round two will begin Saturday and the tournament will conclude with the third and final round Sunday. Snyder will begin play for the Cats off the 10th tee at 9 a.m. Barr, Powers, Martin and Parker will follow, respectively, in nine-minute intervals. Bishop will tee off from the 10th at 9:45 a.m.
Kentucky had an impressive showing at the USF Invitational two weeks ago. The Wildcats finished third at 4-over-par, and went 3-under-par in the tournament’s final two rounds. Kentucky was led by Parker who finished fourth with a 3-under-par 213. Parker shot a 5-under-par 67 in the second round and an even-par 72 to soar up the leaderboard. Parker is 8-under-par in his last four rounds combined, going back to the final round of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.
Martin currently leads Kentucky with a stroke average of 73.10. With eight tournaments under his belt this year, Martin has five top-20 finishes, including three top-five finishes.
