First Round Individual Results
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team, led by sophomore Liz Breed, finished the first round of the LSU Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La., tied for eighth. The Wildcats shot a 23-over-par 311, leaving them 19 strokes off the lead.
Breed, sitting tied for 17th had one of her best rounds of the spring, shooting a four-over-par 76, highlighted by two birdies, including a birdie on the 516-yard, par-five, 11th hole. Junior Ashleigh Albrecht is one stroke behind Breed, shooting a five-over-par 77, leaving her tied for 27th through one round. Albrecht led Kentucky with three birdies in the first round.
Tournament host LSU currently leads the pack, shooting a seven-over-par 295. Tennessee sits three strokes off the lead while North Carolina, Vanderbilt and Virginia round out the top five.
“Today was a tough day for us,” said UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “We got off to a rough start in the morning, but we were able to recover during the middle of the round.”
Junior Betsie Johnson sunk a birdie in the first round en route to a six-over-par 76. Senior Ashlee Rose finished her first round with an eight-over-par 80, tallying one birdie on the day.
A native of Baton Rouge and competing as individual, junior Heather Lott shot a nine-over-par 81 in the first round. Junior Megan Moir finished day one with a 19-over-par 91.
Kentucky will begin round two of the LSU Golf Classic Saturday morning from the 10th hole. The Wildcats will tee off in 10-minute intervals with Moir leading off at 10:10 a.m. Moir will be followed by Rose, Johnson, Albrecht and Breed at 10:50 a.m. Lott will begin her second round from the 10th tee at 8:50 a.m. All times are Central.
