LEXINGTON, Ky. – Tyler Reed and Lucas Gerotto both qualified for the 2012 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with swims Sunday afternoon that catapulted them into elite company in the final day of the Bulldog Last Chance Meet.
“We had a great final session today,” UK head coach Gary Conelly said. “Of the three swimmers that stayed, they all went lifetime bests. Lucas Gerotto capped it off with a 46.75 in the 100-fly. It is on to Seattle for Lucas and Tyler (Reed). Hopefully Greg Ferrucci and John Fox can join them in diving.”
Gerotto swam a 46.75 in the 100-fly, just three one hundredths of a second off the UK record, and good enough to place him 13th overall in the nation this year.
Tyler Reed swam a 43.08 in the men’s 100-freestyle to push himself to Seattle for the NCAA Championships in that event.
The 2012 NCAA Championships will be held from Thursday, March 22 through Sunday, March 24 in Federal Way, Wash.
NCAA qualifications for zone’s will take place March 8-10 in Bloomington, Ind., as Greg Ferrucci and John Fox will attempt to qualify for the Cats.
As a reminder for UK swimming and diving fans, ESPN, as part of its television contract with the SEC is proud to present the SEC swimming and diving championships on a tape-delay basis on ESPNU in two parts. The first part will air Monday, Feb. 27 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The conclusion of the event will also be shown on ESPNU beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Feb 28.
