| USA Individual Tournament Round One
University of Kentucky junior men’s golfer Joseph Barr carded back-to-back rounds of 1-over-par 73 Monday, as the Kentucky men’s golf team sits in 11th place after the first two rounds of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate held in Mobile, Ala.
Barr led the way for the Wildcats on Monday, and enters Tuesday’s final round sitting in a tie for 19th after back-to-back rounds of 1-over-par at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course (par 72, 7,160 yards). As a team, Kentucky fired an 11-over-par, 299, in the first round, only to rebound with a 7-over-par, 295, in the second round.
“We showed some rust in the morning round and then had a nice round going in the afternoon,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “Unfortunately, we did not finish it off like I would have liked. We need to bounce back tomorrow and finish with a solid final round.”
Freshman David Snyder, who was playing in just his third event with his score counting toward the team total, carded an opening round of 4-over-par before bouncing back with a 1-over-par 73 in the afternoon round. Snyder sits in a tie for 37th entering the final round.
Sophomore Stephen Powers opened his spring season with a 6-over-par 78. Powers regrouped in the afternoon though, carding five birdies and finishing with a team-best round of even-par, 72.
Junior Chase Parker and sophomore Cody Martin sit in a tie for 62nd and 66th, respectively.
Hosted by the University of South Alabama, the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate is in its fifth year of existence. In addition to the Wildcats, 14 other schools are competing in the tournament, including Akron, Arkansas State, Illinois, Illinois State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Toledo, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
Kentucky will begin its final round Tuesday at 9:48 a.m. ET with Martin teeing off from the 10th tee. Parker, Powers, Snyder and Barr will follow Martin, respectively, in 10-minute intervals.
For the first time, the University of South Alabama Individual Tournament ran at the same time as the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The USA Individual Tournament, which is being held at the Magnolia Grove Falls Golf Course (par 71, 7,051 yards), played one round Monday, with sophomore Matthew Anderson, junior Seth Blann and freshman Will Bishop each sitting in a tie for 10th place after rounds of 6-over-par 77.
Senior Mads Kristensen and freshman Todd McDaniel each sit in a tie for 21st at the USA Individual Tournament after carding first round scores of 8-over-par.
