LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team concluded play at the UCF Challenge on Tuesday afternoon, finishing the final round with a tournament-best team score of eight-over-par 296 at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla. The Wildcats placed eighth overall with a 54-hole score of 26-over-par 890.

After winning the UCF Challenge last season, junior Ashleigh Albrecht finished tied for 20th this season. Albrecht’s three-over-par 75 in the final round left her at five-over-par 221 for the tournament. Albrecht finished the weekend with eight birdies, while her eagle in the first round was one of just two eagles scored the entire tournament.

“Overall I think we had a solid tournament, this was a good warm up for our team,” said UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “We did a better job of finishing today, which was something we had talked a lot about”

Auburn finished atop the leaderboard, sealing a two-stroke victory over second-place Baylor with a one-under-par 863 at the three-day event. Tulane finished in third place, just three strokes out of first, while UCF and Augusta State round out the top five. Victoria Trapani of Auburn won the individual title, beating Ashley McKenney and Gemma Dryburgh of Tulane by one stroke. Trapani finished the tournament with a three-under-par 213.

Senior Ashlee Rose continued her consistent play in the third round, shooting a two-over-par 74. Rose nailed three birdies in the final round to finish tied for 32nd with a seven-over-par 223.

Junior Heather Lott shot a two-over-par 74 in the final round, ending the tournament at eight-over-par 224. Lott scored 10 birdies in the three-day event en route to finishing tied for 38th. Junior Betsie Johnson shot a team best one-over-par 73 in the final round to finish tied for 43rd with a nine-over-par 225.

With a team-high 11 birdies throughout the tournament, sophomore Liz Breed finished tied for 58th at 13-over-par 229. Breed shot a seven-over-par 79 in the final round. As an individual, junior Megan Moir shot an 11-over-par in the final round, finishing 94th with a total score of 242.

“Now we will head home, build on the confidence from this tournament, continue to work on things we struggled with and get ready for our next event down in Baton Rouge,” said coach Borst.

Kentucky will take a short break before returning to action March 9-11 at the LSU Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La.
