LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky freshman Keilah Tyson etched her name into the track and field freshman record book for the third time this season, and the University of Kentucky men’s and women’s track and field teams put together numerous strong performances at both the SPIRE Division I Collegiate Invitational and the Husky Classic on Saturday.

Tyson continued her stellar freshman campaign by winning the 200m dash at the SPIRE Division I Collegiate Invitational in Geneva, Ohio. Tyson won the race with a time of 23.69, breaking her previous career-best by .24 seconds and is the second fastest time in school history and a new freshman record at Kentucky. Tyson had set her previous career-best time of 23.93 last weekend at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational.

The Wildcats had a very strong 400m dash Saturday, with freshman Angelica Whaley, sophomore Julie Nunn and junior Shiara Robinson all recording season-best times. Whaley paced the trio with a career-best time of 55.30, the seventh best time in program history. Nunn followed closely behind with a ninth-place finish of 55.38. Robinson came in 10th with a time of 55.64. Whaley, Nunn and Robinson are now all each in the all-time top-10 in the 400m in the UK record books. Nunn ran the fifth-fastest time in school history last season, while Robinson ran the eighth-fastest time, also last season.

One week after sprinting to a new career-best time in the 60m hurdles, junior Darryl Bradshaw did it once more Saturday. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Bradshaw finished fifth with a time of 8.00, topping his previous time by 0.01. Bradshaw’s time of 8.00 is the sixth fastest in program history.

Freshman Bradley Szypka recorded a new career-best in the men’s shot put, finishing ninth with a throw of 16.31m/53-06.25. Szypka’s previous career-best was set at the beginning of the year at the Kentucky Invitational.

On the women’s side, senior Jennifer Svoboda just missed out on her career-best throw by 2.25 inches, finishing third with a mark of 15.60m/51-02.25. Svoboda’s throw was, however, a season-best throw.

Across the country in Seattle at the Husky Classic, Kentucky was led by Allison Peare and Walter Luttrell. Peare finished 10th in the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.92, a career-best time and the 10th-best time in school history. Similarly, Luttrell recorded a career-best time in the 3,000m run en route to a 27th-place finish. Luttrell’s time was also the 10th fastest time in school history for the 3,000m.

Junior Cally Macumber finished 25th in the women’s 3,000m run with a time of 9:26.07. While the time isn’t a career-best for the Rochester Hills, Mich., native, it is the best 3,000m time the Wildcat women have run this season.

The Kentucky men recorded two career-best times in the mile Saturday. Adam Kahleifeh finished 23rd with a time of 4:06.88, while Matthew Hillenbrand finished 31st with a time of 4:08.76. Hillenbrand’s previous best time was 4:10.25 set at last year’s Husky Classic.

The Husky Classic and SPIRE Collegiate Invitational marked the final two meets of the indoor season for Kentucky. The Wildcats will come home again Feb. 24-26 for the SEC Indoor Championships at the E.J. Nutter Field House. It is the sixth time Kentucky has hosted the event.
