LEXINGTON, Ky. – Behind victories in all four of the singles matches, the University of Kentucky women’s tennis team (4-1, 0-0 SEC) defeated the Miami University RedHawks (2-3, 0-0 MAC) 5-2 in a non-conference match on Sunday night at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Center in Lexington as part of the Wildcats nine-game homestand.

Miami won the first point in the match, claiming two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore
Khristina Blajkevitch
partnered with Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff won their match 8-4. Miami tied the doubles up with an 8-6 win, and Riecke Honiball and Nimisha Mohan clinched the doubles point for the RedHawks by defeating Jessica Stiles and Marni Venter, 8-5.

The singles were a far different story, however, as the Wildcats won all four matches. The first win for the Wildcats came in just 1:10 minutes as Jessica Stiles defeated Nimisha Mohan 6-1, 6-0.

The other three singles matches would all be pushed the distance, as the Wildcats recorded three more wins, all in third-set matches. Stephanie Fox gave the Wildcats the second point of the match with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win in the third.

The Wildcats’
Khristina Blajkevitch
earned a hard-fought, gutsy win in her first match back from a wrist injury in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Blajkevitch defeated Stephanie Danesis of the RedHawks, giving the Wildcats a 3-1 lead at the time.

Kentucky would clinch the match on court three with a win from
Edmée Morin-Kougoucheff
7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-4 over Reicke Honiball. Morin-Kougoucheff and Honiball battled back and forth in the third before finally Morin-Kougoucheff got a break in the third set, and put the match away.

The win improves the Wildcats to 4-1 overall, while the RedHawks of Miami fall to 2-3 overall in the 2012 season.

Kentucky will next be in action on Saturday Feb. 11 for a doubleheader. The first match will begin at 10:00 a.m. ET as the Wildcats take on the Winthrop Eagles, followed by the nightcap at 6:00 p.m. ET against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
