ATHENS, Ga. – The Kentucky diving team finished off the University of Georgia Diving Invitational Thursday with performances led by Greg Ferrucci and Lindsay Keahey, who both placed in the top-10 in the platform competition at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia.
“I was pleased with some of the individual results on platform today,” UK diving head coach Ted Hautau said. “
Ferrucci scored a 336.25 on the platform, earning him a fourth-place finish in the competition. The winner of the men’s competition was John Santeiu of Auburn University, who earned a score of 397.45.
On the men’s side, Zack Peterson, Corey Cowger and John Fox all placed in the top 20. Peterson scored a 294.20 in the finals, placing 14th, while Cowger earned a 15th-place finish, and Fox finished 17th with a score of 281.10.
“Corey Cowger and Zack Peterson did a real good job today as well. This was Corey’s first platform list in a few months since hurting his shoulder in November and he showed a lot of confidence up there. Zack Peterson went his personal best by 25 points and was 5 points shy of qualifying for the NCAA Zone Meet.” Said Huatau.
The women finished off a very consistent meet, placing three divers in the top 15 for the second-consecutive day. Keahey led the way for the Wildcats, posting a 10th-place finish, earning a score a 219.80 for five dives. Freshman Christa Cabot scored a 214.20 for the five-dive sequence, as The Woodlands, Texas native earned a 12th-place finish.
“I thought Lindsay Keahey did a great job today and all meet. She is showing a good deal of improvement.” Hautau said.
Sarah Chewning rounded out the meet for UK, finishing with a 189.45, earning a 15th-place finish.
The meet featured many Southeastern Conference teams, which provided stiff competition, as the Wildcats faced the top divers from Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia and LSU.
UK will next take to the diving boards on Saturday, Jan. 14 at Alabama, as the Wildcats will return to dual-meet competition for the first time since November.
