FAIRBANKS, Alaska — Highlighted by a standout performance from sophomore Emily Holsopple, the Kentucky rifle team posted a 4687-4608 win over the United States Air Force Academy, on Saturday at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.

Kentucky (6-0) was led in the match by Holsopple, who fired team-leading scores in smallbore (588) and air rifle (595). Holsopple entered the match with an average of 583.85 in smallbore and 591.67 in air rifle, with her 597 in air rifle against Memphis setting a new school-record earlier in the year.

In smallbore, Henri Junghänel finished just behind Holsopple with a 585. Ethan Settlemires, the defending national champion in smallbore, fired a 578, with freshman Elijah Ellis (570) and Stacy Wheatley (573) rounding out the starting lineup. Heather Greathouse fired a stellar 586.

In air rifle, Junghänel had a 590, with Settlemires firing a 592. Katie Fretts finished with a 575, while Ellis charted a 586. Greathouse and Fretts shot on the second team for the Wildcats in air rifle, with Greathouse contributing a 587. Settlemires finished with a 592 in air rifle to help push UK to the win.

UK will return to action on Sunday, facing hosting Alaska-Fairbanks, a tradition-laden program, at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.
