KNOXVILLE, Tenn., – The University of Kentucky had many impressive performances today in the first day of the University of Tennessee Invitational at the Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn. Kentucky as a team sits in fifth place overall in the meet, with the men in fourth and the women in sixth place after the events of day one.

In the three meter diving competition, the Wildcats placed two in the top seven as sophomore Greg Ferrucci turned in a fourth-place score of 379.90 and Corey Cowger turned in a seventh-place finish posting a score of 316.80.

In the men’s 200 freestyle-relay, the team of Matt Russell, Chris Lott, John Bullock and Tyler Reed finished the race with an impressive time of 1:27.87, which turned out to be a fourth-place finish. In the same event, the Wildcat women’s team of Megan Eppler, Christina Bechtel, Kelcy Perry and Kristen Wilson posted a time of 1:33.52 and a fifth-place finish.

Megan Eppler highlighted day one for the Wildcat women, finishing in second place in the 50-freestyle, posting a time of 23.03.

In the women’s one-meter diving competition, Christa Cabot and Sarah Chewning finished in 14th and 15th place respectfully, both posting scores of over 232 points.

Travis Green highlighted the day for the Wildcats men’s program as Green finished the 200-freestyle in second place, turning in a time of 1:39.87

Thursday will be the second day of the three-day invitational which will feature five races, made up of the 400-IM, 100-butterfly, 200-freestyle, 100-breaststroke, and the 100-backstroke.
