LEXINGTON, Ky. – After recording three top-four team finishes in its first five events, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team will close out its fall season in Greensboro, N.C., at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate on Saturday and Sunday.
Hosted by the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the Wildcats head to Greensboro, N.C., to compete at the Forest Oaks Country Club (par 72, 7,212 yards) on Oct. 29-30. Kentucky will play 36 holes Saturday with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET, and another 18 holes Sunday with tee times assigned based on team scoring.
The event features a quality 15-team field, including seven teams ranked in Golfstat.com’s top 100. In addition to Kentucky and UNC-Greensboro, Georgia State, Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Ole Miss, Pepperdine, Purdue, South Carolina, Toledo, Virginia Commonwealth and Virginia Tech will be competing for the tournament crown.
“The Bridgestone is a terrific event with a quality field,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “The golf course is also a former PGA Tour site which is a good experience for the team to play. We are ready to put four solid scores together each day and finish the fall on a positive note.”
Craig will be sending sophomore Cody Martin, junior Joseph Barr, sophomore Stephen Powers, junior Chase Parker and freshman David Snyder to represent Kentucky.
Powers led the Wildcats two weeks ago at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic, finishing in a tie for 25th place. A native of Naperville, Ill., Powers is one of three UK golfers who has played in all 13 rounds this season, along with Martin and Parker.
Kentucky will be tested by the Forest Oaks Country Club. A stop on the PGA Tour for more than 30 years, Forest Oaks is known by many as one of golf’s best tests. Craig brought Kentucky to the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate last year, finishing in 12th as a team. Barr finished second on the team that season with an even-par 216, and Parker finished third on the team at 4-over par. The Wildcats, as a team, finished at 13-over par.
The trip to Greensboro, N.C., will be a homecoming of sorts for Craig, who was born and raised in nearby Gastonia, N.C.
