LEXINGTON, Ky. — After posting a pair of stellar scores in air rifle to lead Kentucky to season-opening wins over Ole Miss and Nebraska over the weekend, junior Stacy Wheatley has been named the UK Rifle Performer of the Week, it was announced by head coach Harry Mullins on Monday afternoon.

Wheatley, a native of Louisville, Ky., turned in a 592 in air rifle on Friday in the season lidlifter, a career-best score. Her total led the Wildcats and helped UK post a win over the Rebels to get the season started. On Sunday, in another Great American Rifle Conference match against Nebraska, Wheatley turned in a 590 in air rifle against Nebraska.

“Wheatley had a great weekend to open up her junior season,” UK assistant coach Stacy Underwood said. “She set a personal best on Friday with a 592 in air rifle and followed it up with another 590 on Sunday. This is the performance that everybody knew she could post and it was great to see her finally achieve it. I believe this is just a preview of what Wheatley is capable of doing this season.”

No. 1 Kentucky (2-0-0, 2-0-0 GARC) returns to action on Sunday, hosting Memphis at UK’s Barker Hall.
