MEMPHIS — The Memphis Tigers got goal in the 75th minute from Wil Linder to break a scoreless tie and later added to its lead, holding off the Kentucky rally for a 2-0 league win, on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon at the Mike Rose Soccer Stadium.

Kentucky (8-9-1, 1-5-0 Conference USA) and the Tigers were locked in a scoreless battle late in the game, when Linder took a shot that sailed high and bounced off the glove of UK keeper Tyler Beadle. The ball skipped off Beadle’s hands and off the crossbar, with Beadle stretching out to try and secure the ball before it rolled over the line. Jordan Johnson was awarded the assist on the goal.

Minutes later, Memphis made a run down the near sideline, crossing the ball into the box, where Mark Sherrod was open at the far post, with Beadle manning the near post. Sherrod fired a quick touch into the net for his league-leading 15th goal of the year. Parker Duncan and Linder added the assists.

Memphis (9-4-1, 3-3-0 C-USA) got a good outing from keeper Conor Hurley, who made one save. Beadle notched four saves in the game.

UK returns to action Sunday, hosting SMU on senior day at 12 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex.

The Wildcats had several chances in the first half, creating seven shots, including two each from Sam Brooks and Josh McCrary. UK was called for offsides six times in the half, including hitting the post once and having an offsides goal called off.

The game puts UK in a tough position to make the C-USA Tournament, as UK sits in a tie for ninth place, with the league taking the top six teams. UK has a home game with second-place SMU and a road match with first-place South Carolina to round out the regular-season schedule.
