LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team wrapped up the second round of the Mercedes-Benz Southeastern Conference/Pac-12 Challenge in Knoxville, Tenn., with a 15-over-par 303. Kentucky’s nine-stroke improvement was led by the improved play of juniors Betsie Johnson and Heather Lott.

With two birdies each, Johnson and Lott both finished the second round at four-over-par 76. Johnson’s seven-stroke improvement and Lott’s six-stroke improvement are very positive signs leading into the final day. Junior Ashleigh Albrecht continued her great play, sinking two birdies to shoot a two-over-par 74. Albrecht is tied for 10th overall with an even-par 144 through day two. Senior Ashlee Rose continued her consistent play, scoring another five-over-par 77. Junior Megan Moir finished day two with a nine-over-par 81.

“We had a better day today and we saw some improvement from yesterday. Unfortunately, we had some missed putts down the stretch but overall we played better as a team,” said UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “We will keep fighting tomorrow and stay focused on our process goals.”

SEC foe No.6 Alabama surpassed UCLA in the second round for the lead through two days. Alabama is currently at three-under-par 573 with UCLA five strokes behind and Auburn rounding out the top three. Kentucky remains tied for 20th at 39-over-par 615.

The battle of the conferences was led by the SEC in day two as their average score was 296.5 to the Pac-12’s 301.54. The SEC now leads the Pac-12 with a score of 598.17 to 600.64 entering the final round of play on Sunday.

The Wildcats look to finish strong on the final day. With a shotgun start, all Kentucky players will tee off at 10:00 a.m. ET. Albrecht will begin on the 16th tee, with Lott and Rose on the 17th tee, and Moir and Johnson on the 18th tee.
