LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team ended their run at the USTA/ITA Women’s Tennis Ohio Valley Regional’s late last night. The last Wildcat left in the tournament, freshman Stephanie Fox, fell to counterpart Paula Jaime of East Tennessee State University to conclude the Wildcat’s play.

Fox had a successful run, making it all the way to the semifinals in the singles back draw, but could not stop Jaime of ETSU. Fox pushed the match to require a third set, eventually falling 6-3 in the deciding frame. The final score was 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, elevating Jaime into the finals of the back draw.

Although no UK players made it to a final, each of the four Wildcats had a successful run. Each Wildcat made it to a quarterfinal or further in singles or doubles play. Some of the standout performances came from Jessica Stiles and Khristina Blajkevitch, as they moved to the semifinals of the main doubles draw. Fox, and fellow freshman Edmee Morin, also excelled in doubles play, as they earned a spot in the quarterfinals in the main draw.

Kentucky will have only one fall tournament remaining before they take a break until the spring season. UK will travel to Charleston, S.C. for the College of Charleston Invitational from Oct. 28-30.
