LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s cross country team, led by junior Luis Orta, earned another top-five finish, coming in fourth at the Panorama Farms Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. The women’s cross country team finished in seventh place Friday.
Orta, a Caracas, Venezuela native who has put together a remarkable junior year, earned his fourth top-10 finish in as many races this season, crossing the finish line of the 8,000 meter race with a time of 24:29.74. Orta has been named the Southeastern Conference Men’s Runner of the Week three times already this season.
Following Orta was sophomore Stacey Eden, who finished in 25th with a time of 25:31.88. Senior Walter Luttrell, sophomore Adam Kahleifeh and senior Josh Nadzam finished in 32nd, 34th and 37th, respectively.
Senior Megan Broderick led the women’s team in its first 6K race of the season with a 23rd-place showing. Broderick, who starred for four years on the women’s tennis team, finished with a time of 22:28.51. Sophomore Anna Bostrom followed Broderick with a 24th-place showing in 22:35.60. Sophomore Taylor Wendler also earned a top-30 time, finishing in 29th.
Rounding out the top five for the Kentucky team was junior Chelsea Oswald, who finished in 36th overall, and freshman Kalen Wright, who finished in 38th.
Kentucky will compete again in two weeks on Oct. 31 in Maryville, Tenn., at the Southeastern Conference Championship meet. The men’s 8K race will begin at 10:00 a.m. ET, followed by the women’s 6K race at 11:00 a.m.
