LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team could not keep up the momentum gained from its tournament-best second round at the Bearcat Invitational, finishing in second place, one-shot short of the title held at the Traditions Golf Club (par 71, 6,855 yards) in Hebron, Ky.

“We had a rough day today and lost by one shot,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “We showed what we are capable of in the middle round but did not back it up today. We need to have a couple days of focused practice this week before heading to Atlanta for our next event.”

The Wildcats were led by juniors Joseph Barr and Chase Parker, who each finished in a tie for third in the 79-player field. UK recorded a 299 in the final round of the tournament to finish at 17-over par total. The second-place finish is Kentucky’s third-straight top-five finish of the season.

Barr carded a final round 78, but finished the tournament at even-par overall and had the second-best scoring average on par 4s. Barr carded a first-round 5-under par 66, the best of his collegiate career, and had the second most birdies in the field.

“Hats off to Joseph Barr for a superb first 36 holes,” Craig said. “To be at 135 going into today was impressive golf. He will learn from today and be better the next time he is in that position.”

Parker concluded his tournament with a 1-over par 72, finishing at even-par overall. The Augusta, Ga., native remained consistent throughout the tournament and finished with the second most pars in the entire field.

Sophomore Stephen Powers finished with a 3-over par 74 on Tuesday, while sophomore Cody Martin carded a 5-over par 76 and senior Mads Kristensen shot a 6-over par 77.

In addition to its “A” squad, which finished in second overall, Kentucky also played a “B” squad at the Bearcat Invitational. The Wildcats’ “B” team is listed in the results of the tournament, but does not factor into Kentucky record or national rankings. The “B” squad finished in 11th at the 15-team field.

UK’s “B” team was lead by freshman David Snyder, who finished in a tie for 32nd with a final round 2-over par 73. Snyder finished at 10-over par overall.

Junior Seth Blann carded a 4-over par 75 on Tuesday, freshmen Will Bishop and Todd McDaniel shot 76 and 77, respectively, and sophomore Matthew Anderson finished with a 7-over par 78.

Kentucky will tee it up again in one week at the Autotrader.com Collegiate Classic in Duluth, Ga., on Oct. 17-18. The inaugural tournament held at Berkeley Hills Country Club is being hosted by Georgia State.
