After practice on Wednesday, Joker Phillips praised his team for a good practice, saying the team had “better concentration (and) better focus.” He did go on to say that the Wildcats have to take it to the next level again on Thursday, but he was pleased with their progress.Running back Raymond Sanders returned to practice Tuesday for the first time since injuring his knee a few weeks ago and was actually able to participate on Wednesday with full contact. Phillips credited the return of the sophomore as a factor in the day’s strong practice.”I’m really impressed with how he’s gotten himself healthy,” Phillips said. “He’s done a good job this week. I think Raymond has actually brought a lot of fire to practice. I think he’s one of the reasons why we’ve practiced so well.”Sanders returned from his injury more quickly than was expected, but the weeks he spent not being able to play or even practice were not easy.”I have been dying to get out here and play,” Sanders said. “I’ve been dying to get out here and practice.”Watching the team from the outside, Sanders saw his teammates struggle, losing each of the three games he missed. Through those struggles, Sanders noticed UK getting tighter and tighter with each bad play.”That’s one thing that I did see,” Sanders said. “I felt like guys were taking it too serious and worrying about making mistakes.”Sanders has taken it on himself to bring energy and enthusiasm back to practice and his fellow running backs have joined in.”That’s one thing that I tried to bring back with me,” Sanders said. “The running backs all started to help me bring energy and give the team enthusiasm.”More than anything else, Sanders wants his teammates to have fun. He knows how much it matters to everyone in the program, but he wants to make sure they remember it’s a game.”Give your all, but have fun,” Sanders said. “That’s what football is about: having fun. Enjoy it.”
