LEXINGTON, Ky. – After two rounds of the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational at the University Club of Kentucky, the UK women’s golf team sits in second place with a 45-over-par 621. On the day, Kentucky finished the second round with a 21-over-par 309. The Cats were paced by junior Ashleigh Albrecht and senior Ashlee Rose, who finished tied for second and tied for fourth, respectively.
Kentucky sits five strokes behind leader, UCF, entering the final round. UCF added to its lead with a second-round best, 17-over-par 305. The top five is rounded out by Michigan at a 56-over-par 632, and Augusta State and Illinois tied for fourth at 57-over-par 633.
Individually, Albrecht and Rose surged with four birdies each to finish in the top five. Albrecht shot a second-round best, one-over-par 73, leaving her one stroke behind the overall leader at 7-over-par 151. Rose finished the second round with a three-over-par 75, putting her three strokes off the lead at 9-over-par 153.
Juniors Betsie Johnson and Heather Lott also finished in the top 20 for the Cats. Johnson and Lott are tied for 16th entering the final round at 15-over-par 159. Johnson improved from the first day, shooting a six-over-par 78, while Lott shot an 83 in the second round.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Liz Breed shot a six-over-par 78 in the second round, leaving her tied for 26th at 16-over-par 160. Kentucky’s fifth player, junior Megan Moir, shot an 88 in the second round, putting her overall score at 168.
“Today was another challenging day on the course. We had a good attitude all day, but we have to get better at minimizing our mistakes,” head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “We are exactly where we want to be and we have a good chance at winning this tournament tomorrow.”
The second day of the invitational was also hindered by bad weather as temperatures barely reached 50 degrees. The mostly overcast skies were accompanied by wind gusts that reached 10-15 mph.
The third and final round of the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational begins Sunday with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. ET. Rose and Albrecht will both tee off from the first tee, while Johnson and Lott will do the same from the second tee. Moir will tee off from the third tee with Breed teeing off from the 18th tee.
