LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team is staying close to home this weekend, as it hosts the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational at the University Club of Kentucky. This is the fifth time Kentucky has hosted the UK Bluegrass Invitational, but the first time the tournament has been played during the fall season.

“We’re really excited to host this tournament in the fall for the first time ever,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “The golf course is in great shape. As a team, we’re ready to bounce back from our first tournament and play how we’re capable of playing.”

The invitational will be played on the Big Blue Course (par 71, 6,988 yards) at the University Club of Kentucky. Southeastern Conference foe Auburn won the title in April last season, and Kentucky finished in second place with a team score of 24-over par 876. The second-place finish was tied for the best finish of the season for UK, and the Wildcats’ score of 876 was their second lowest of the year.

The Wildcats will send out their entire roster this weekend, with a five-man rotation and five individuals. Sophomore Cody Martin, who finished in a tie for fourth place at the Marshall Invitational with a score of 7-under par 206, will start for Kentucky along with 2010 SEC All-Freshman team selection Chase Parker, sophomore Stephen Powers, junior Joseph Barr and freshman Will Bishop. Sophomore Matthew Anderson, junior Seth Blann, senior Mads Kristensen, and freshmen Todd McDaniel and David Snyder will play as individuals.

The tournament this year will feature 15 schools competing for the title, including Austin Peay, Belmont, Butler, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Lipscomb, Marshall, Morehead State, Murray State, Tennessee-Martin, Valparaiso, Wright State, Youngstown State and Kentucky. There will also be 12 individuals from seven schools playing in this year’s tournament.

Kentucky finished in 11th place last weekend at the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W.Va. UK was led by Martin, whose 54-hole total of 206 was a career best.
