LEXINGTON, Ky. — Riding an unbeaten start to the season and a blistering offensive attack, the Kentucky men’s soccer team has soared to No. 15 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America top-25 poll, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Kentucky (3-0-1) has climbed from No. 21 in the NSCAA poll last week to No. 15, UK’s highest ranking since moving to No. 13 in 2009, before a tilt at No. 6 Indiana. UK is also ranked No. 23 in the College Soccer News top-30 poll, after checking in at No. 29 last week, also advancing into the Soccer Times poll for the first time in 2011, at No. 23.
UK is off to an unbeaten start to 2011, posting wins over Dayton, No. 9 Michigan and Wright State, before a 2-2 weather-shortened draw with IUPUI on Sunday. The Wildcats have been led by an electric offensive attack that has seen UK take 22 shots per game and firing 43 total corners in just four contests, with opponents mustering only nine corners and 6.2 shots per game.
The Wildcats have been led offensively by Tyler Riggs, who has four goals and an assist in the first four games of 2011. Matt Lodge has fired a team-high 22 shots, including two goals and one assist. C.J. Tappel and Brad Walker each own a goal, while Charles Pettys leads UK with three assists. In goal, starter Tyler Beadle has tallied a 0.67 goals-against average.
UK wraps up its five-game, season-opening homestand on Tuesday night with IPFW at 7 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex.
