Former Kentucky men’s basketball player Desmond Allison was killed Monday in Columbus, Ohio, after he was shot in the chest, according to a report out of Columbus.According to reports, Allison was 31.Allison played two seasons under former head coach Tubby Smith before being dismissed from the team after the 1999-2000 season. Allison played in 67 games as a Wildcat, averaging 6.1 points on 45.4 percent shooting. He went on to play Division II football at South Dakota after leaving UK.Although his career never panned out at Kentucky like some would have hoped, there was no denying Allison’s athletic ability.”Desmond Allison was one of the most gifted athletes I every played against in high school,” NBA all-star Tracy McGrady said on Twitter.Current head coach John Calipari sent out a tweet Monday night to express his condolences for the Allison family. “Big Blue Nation, please join me and pray for the family of former Kentucky Wildcat Desmond Allison as they grieve his passing,” Calipari said.
