LEXINGTON, Ky. — University of Kentucky men’s tennis senior Eric Quigley and former men’s tennis star Brad Cox, fell in the opening round of the Fifth Third Bank Tennis Championship doubles main draw 6-3, 6-4 to Mathieu Rodrigues and Clement Reix of France at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex on Monday.

Quigley and Cox, who received a wildcard spot into the doubles main draw, were the victims of back-to-back breaks in the first set that led to the French duo winning the first set 6-3. In the second set, both tandems held serve the first six games to knot the score at 3-3 before Rodrigues and Reix grabbed a break to go up 5-3 before putting the match away in the second set 6-4.

Reix, who is ranked No. 271 in singles and No. 573 in doubles in the world, played at Clemson University from 2003-06 and had a 141-77 career record, while Rodrigues is currently ranked No. 347 in singles and No. 648 in doubles in the world.

Two current Kentucky players will continue to represent the Wildcats in the event with Quigley and Alex Musialek beginning their play in the singles main draw Tuesday night. Quigley, who earned All-America honors in singles the past two seasons, will take on former Intercollegiate Tennis Association No. 1-ranked player Rhyne Williams in the opening round. Musialek, who has been an All-Southeastern Conference performer the past two seasons, will face former North Carolina standout Nicholas Monroe in the opening round. Quigley’s singles match will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. ET, with Musialek’s match following Quigley’s.

Quigley and Musialek recently finished the 2011 collegiate season ranked in the top 50 in the nation with Quigley ending the year at No. 7 and Musialek at No. 47.
