DES MOINES, Iowa – Senior sprinter Jenna Martin scored two points for the Kentucky track and field women’s team for a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter dash, Friday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

After running the semifinal round on Wednesday and then the opening leg of the women’s 4x400m relay, Martin came out for the third day in a row for the finals of the 400m dash. The senior started strong out of the blocks and continued to pick up pace heading into the final turn but slowed down the finish. The native of Nova Scotia, Canada finished seventh in the event with a time of 52.97 and scored the women’s only two points of the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Martin will leave Kentucky as the school-record holder in the 400m dash with a time of 51.91.

Also in action for the Wildcats on Friday was junior multi-event athlete Precious Nwokey, who closed out the final three events of the heptathlon. Nwokey posted a final score of 5,235 points to finish 15th overall in the competition. The junior began the day in the long jump, which for the second day in a row started with a delay due to lightning in the area, with her best finish of the day in sixth. Nwokey had a long jump of 5.81m/19-00.75 for 792 points, moving into seventh and scoring position with two events remaining. The native of Houston, struggled in the final two events posting a 22nd-place performance in the javelin followed by an 18th-place finish in the 800m run.

The UK men’s team ranks tied for 37th overall with five total points while the women’s squad sits tied for 50th with two points.

The men’s triple jump with Keenan Hall will wrap of the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships for the Kentucky track and field team, which begins at 12:05 p.m. ET. The meet can be viewed live on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. ET.
