LEXINGTON, Ky. – North Carolina State transfer Ryan Harrow has enrolled for summer classes at UK, head Coach John Calipari announced on Thursday.
A 6-1 guard, Harrow averaged 9.3 points and 3.3 assists as a freshman at North Carolina State last season. He was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Week on Dec. 15 after his performance against USC Upstate where he came off the bench to score a career-best 20 points on 10-of-13 shooting. He also dished out five assists to zero turnovers and added three steals.
Due to NCAA transfer rules, Harrow will have to sit out the 2011-12 season, but he will have three years of eligibility remaining.
“Ryan has tremendous ball-handling skills and offensive awareness and is a great addition to our team,” Calipari said. “He’s a great student of the game as well as in the classroom. He’ll have a year to grow in our system and should be ready to be a major contributor in 2012-13.”
A graduate of Walton High School in Marietta, Ga., Harrow was a third-team Parade All-American, the Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year and the Georgia 5A player of the year as a senior. He was rated the 19th-best overall prospect and No. 7 point guard by Rivals.com in the class of 2010 and was rated No. 25 and No. 39 overall by Scout.com and ESPN Recruiting, respectively.
