LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s tennis team will take the courts at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex for the final time this season when it faces No. 18 Vanderbilt on Senior Day at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday.
Being honored on Senior Day for their hard work and careers at Kentucky are Megan Broderick, Lauren Meier and Nicole Scates.
Broderick has led Kentucky throughout her career, playing primarily at No. 1 singles since her freshman season. The native of Tampa, Fla., has won over 60 matches in her four years with the Wildcats and has climbed the rankings to as high as No. 55 during her sophomore season. During her rookie campaign in 2008, Broderick was named to the All-Southeastern Conference Freshman Team, was SEC Freshman of the Week three times, and named to the All-SEC Singles second team.
Meier was a tournament champion at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic as a sophomore. Despite battling injuries throughout her career, Meier was a part of many key wins for the tennis program. One of her biggest wins came during her sophomore season when she helped lead UK to a 4-3 victory against Florida for just the second time in program history.
Scates, who came to Kentucky after spending her freshman and sophomore years at Gardner-Webb, was a part of the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ school-record season for most wins. Scates competed in 20 matches for the Wildcats last season.
Kentucky (4-18, 2-8 SEC) is coming off back-to-back losses at No. 17 Arkansas and No. 54 LSU. UK fell 6-1 at Arkansas last Friday before dropping a 6-2 decision Sunday at LSU. The Wildcats were led in the losses by freshmen Khristina Blajkevitch and Caitlin McGraw and sophomore Jessica Stiles. Blajkevitch and McGraw earned their team-high ninth singles victories of the season.
Vanderbilt (12-7, 6-4 SEC) enters the weekend after a 4-3 victory over Arkansas last Sunday and a 7-0 win over LSU. The Commodores are led by No. 76 Alex Leatu and No. 83 Chelsea Preeg in singles. Leatu teams up with Rachael Dillon to form the No. 43 ranked doubles team. Vanderbilt also has the No. 90 ranked doubles team in Lauren Mira and Erica Robertson.
Saturday’s match was originally scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start but was moved ahead two hours. Admission is free and parking is available in parking structure No. 7 next to the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center on Sportscenter Drive. Live scores for will be available on UKathletics.com.
