LEXINGTON, Ky. – Behind career-low rounds from freshmen Cody Martin and Stephen Powers, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team moved up the team leaderboard into 12th after day two of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C., on Monday.

After an opening round mark of 17-over-par 301, Kentucky responded in the second round with an impressive score of 5-over-par 289 to move up the team leaderboard. The third and final round of the 54-hole tournament will be played Tuesday with tee times starting at 8 a.m. ET. All five UK players will tee off from the No. 10 tee.

Martin and Powers paced the Wildcats in the second round with Martin scoring a 3-under-par 68, while Powers carded an even-par 71. Martin, who has competed in every tournament this spring for Kentucky, earned four birdies Monday en route to the low score. The native of Union, Ky., jumped 30 spots up the leaderboard and currently in a tie for 22nd at 2-over-par 144 for the tournament.

Powers’ even-par mark was Kentucky’s second lowest round of the tournament so far as the freshman continues to post a solid freshman season. The native of Naperville, Ill., is playing in his third spring event and has a season stroke average this spring of 75. Powers sits tied for 43rd heading into the final round with a 6-over-par 148.

Sophomore Chase Parker improved in the second round from the first day, earning a 1-over-par 72 to sit at 5-over-par 147 and in a tie for 39th after Monday’s round. The native of Augusta, Ga., notched two birdies in the second round.

Junior Mads Kristensen and senior Brian Belden wrap up the UK rotation with both golfers posting a 7-over-par 78 in the second round. Kristensen is at 9-over-par 151 for the tournament and in a tie for 56th, while Belden is in 74th at 20-over-par 162.

Augusta State leads the tournament at 5-under-par 563, while Southeastern Conference foe LSU is second at 3-under-par 565. Ole Miss’ Jonathan Randolph is the individual leader at 5-under-par 137.
