LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky freshman diver Greg Ferrucci did not compete on the three-meter board Friday at the University Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, home to the 2011 men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, due to a quad injury suffered during Thursday’s one-meter diving competition.
“I decided to hold Greg out of the three-meter competition today,” UK diving coach Ted Hautau said. “His quad was weak this morning and the springboard puts a lot of load on your legs, so in the interest of safety I held him out. We will see how it’s doing tomorrow and then make a decision on diving platform.”
Ferrucci, the Southeastern Conference Freshman Diver of the Year, injured his leg on his third dive Thursday on the one-meter board. Ferrucci did not qualify for the finals Thursday, earning a score of 264.65 in the preliminaries to finish in 33rd place.
Saturday is the third and final day of the men’s swimming and diving championships, and will feature the platform diving board.
